Chinese Festival of Arts/Huayi (February)

The Chinese festival of Arts is held to coincide with the Chinese New Year Festivities. Held at the Esplanade Theatres on the Bay, it is a cultural programme that presents the work of Chinese performing artists, whether traditional, contemporary or cutting edge. These performances allow Chinese artists to showcase their work to local and international audiences, while at the same time giving the audience a taste of some of the most dynamic forms of Chinese artistic expression.
 
 
 
 
Singapore Arts Festival (May - June)

The Singapore Arts festival has been running since 1977 as a national celebration of the arts. Organised by the National Arts Council (NAC), the festival has become internationally recognised as an important arts platform with the focus being on theatre, dance and music. Companies from around the world, as well as local performers present a wide range of classic and contemporary performances at various places and venues throughout Singapore. The Singapore Arts Festival has played a central role in the development of the artistic and cultural life of Singapore and has helped transform the city into a major cultural capital.

 
 
 
Heritage Festival (July)

The annual Singapore Heritage Festival celebrates the nation’s multi-cultural heritage in an annual series of cultural and heritage events. Each year a different theme is chosen and through a range of events including exhibitions, heritage tours, culinary events, and concerts and other performances, Singaporeans can explore, honour and learn more about Singapore’s unique heritage

 
 
 
Read Singapore (May - August)

Read Singapore was set up by the National Library Board (NLB) in 2005. It sets out to encourage and cultivate a love for reading among the local community. Recognising that many more people would like to become regular readers, Read Singapore selects novels and short stories in the four official languages of Singapore as reading recommendations. Reading activities are arranged throughout Read Singapore at various locations island-wide, and include events such as a reading marathon and writing competitions.
 
 
 
Singapore Art Show (August - October)

The Singapore Art Show
is a biannual event organised so that both established and emerging artists may showcase their latest artworks. The Singapore Art Show is a complement to the Singapore Biennale, and is held at a range of different venues. It showcases art works in a wide range of different mediums and genres and focuses on involving the public in arts through a wide range of outreach programmes.
 
   
 
Singapore Biennale (September - October)

Inaugurated by the National Arts Council (NAC) in 2006, the Singapore Biennale aims to position Singapore prominently as an international centre and regional thought leader in the field of visual art. It encourages Singapore artists and Singapore to engage with the international art world, through the invitation of regional and international artists to exhibit with Singapore artists, and for Singapore to join the international community of art biennales. As a platform for collaborations with the global arts community, the Biennale provides new opportunities for local visual artists and arts businesses, and is a significant opportunity to cultivate deeper public engagement with the arts.
 
The Singapore Biennale 2011 is organised by the Singapore Art Museum, and supported by the National Arts Council.
   
Malay Festival of Arts/Pesta Raya (October - November)

An annual event held at the Esplanade Theatres on the Bay to coincide with Hari Raya Puasa. The festival is a celebration of Malay arts and artists both from Singapore and internationally. The festival features some of the finest traditional and contemporary works of dance, theatre and music.
   
 
Singapore Writers Festival (October - November)

The Singapore Writers Festival is a biannual event organised by the National Arts Council (NAC). It is a means of introducing Singaporeans to some of the major literary talents of the world by inviting renowned writers to visit Singapore in order to meet and talk to the reading public. The festival is also a platform for the promotion of new and emerging Singaporean and Asian writing. The festival is one of the few multi-lingual literary festivals that highlight writing in English, Malay, Mandarin and Tamil. The festival organises a wide range of programmes including seminars, meet the author sessions, programmes on graphic novels and multi-disciplinary activities that intertwine literature with other art forms such as music, theatre and film.
   
Indian Festival of Arts/Kalaa Utsavam (November)

This annual festival is held in conjunction with Deepavali, the Indian Festival of Lights. It is organised by the Esplanade Theatres on the Bay and presents an exciting selection of contemporary and traditional performances by leading Indian artists from Singapore and beyond.
   
 
Noise Singapore (November - December)

This youth arts festival organised by the National Arts Council (NAC) focuses on encouraging young people in Singapore aged 35 and below to participate in the arts through creating original works of art, design, photography and music. A national call for submission is done online from August to November, culminating in a showcase of their talent through exhibitions, concerts and the media. An apprenticeship programme and a series of talks and workshops are also organised for the youths to learn from professionals in the industry. Through these platforms, Noise seeks to provide exposure and opportunities for emerging artistic talent to be spotted, while encouraging other youths to create the arts.
